The Danube

The Danube River in River Cruises Europe

The Danube River is the second-longest river in Europe and the longest in the EU. It begins in Germany and has a further 10 EU countries on its shores, including Romania, Hungary, Austria, Croatia and Ukraine. The River runs all the way through to the Black Sea, having started in the Black Forest.

The Danube is a culturally and historically important waterway and, as such, is an extremely popular and historic destination for river cruises in Europe. The Danube is a truly beautiful and rewarding experience and perfect to see via boat.

It is also featured by all the main river-cruise operators and highlights cities like Regensburg in Germany, Linz and Vienna in Austria, Bratislava (Slovakia), Budapest, Belgrade (Serbia) and Vukovar (Croatia). It also features the majestic Iron Gates section between Romania and Serbia and numerous charming villages along the way, as well as an immense cultural mix. It is also connected to the lower Rhine via the Main and Danube Canals, hence is navigable all the way from Rotterdam.
