River Cruising into the Record Books!

River Cruising into the Record Books!

It's true, next time you flick through the classic book of daring achievements and unusual challenges, you may just see a shot of 10 Viking River Boats.

Why? Because on Wednesday of this week, Viking River Cruises achieved a Guiness World Record of its own with the naming of no less than 10 ships on a single day, four in Amsterdam and six in Neptun Werft’s Rostock yard. Although to be fair, only 8 counted toward the record with two already being in service.

Viking did not simply drift into the record books by default, they were very much prepared with an official Guinness Judge there to verify proceedings. And his verdict? A new World record for ‘most ships inaugurated in one day by one company'.

The event was also attended by no more than 10 godmothers who were all present in Amsterdam and Viking chairman Torstein Hagen was understandably delighted with the novel accolade, getting a personal congratulations from the Guiness judge.

One thing seems certain with Viking, they are certainly putting the concept of river cruising firmly in the mind and sight of people who may otherwise never even consider this form of travel, with sponsorship of prime-time television dramas and world records thrown in for good measure.
